Oscilator Reference for Device Connected to adapt9s12XDP512

Postby skeys » Fri Jul 08, 2011 3:54 pm

Hi, I'm trying to interface a simple DSP(TPIC8101) over the SPI bus. I think I have the SPI figured out, but the DSP also needs a clock reference from the MCU. I'm not really sure what I should do.

http://powerefi.com/files/TPIC8101.pdf

oscillator input (XIN)
The XIN terminal is the input to the inverter used for the oscillator circuit. An external clock signal from the MCU,
crystal, or ceramic resonator is configured with resistors and capacitors. To bias the inverter, a resistor (1 MΩ
typ) is placed across XIN and XOUT.
This clock signal is prescaled to set the internal sampling frequency of the A/D converter.

oscillator output (XOUT)
The XOUT terminal is the output of the inverter used for the oscillator circuit.

Any input would be appreciated!

You could enable the ECLK signal on the S12XDP512 (via the ECLKCTL register) and use it as the source of XIN for your DSP chip. If you need help with the details on this, I recommend posting a message on the Freescale 16-bit forum: http://forums.freescale.com/t5/16-Bit-M ... /16BITCOMM
